PSD to HTML & CSS conversions

How this works

You send me your source file and I send you a collection of files that will reproduce your design as a web page.

How much will this cost? I charge by the hour, so if you can make it easier for me, it will take me less time to complete the job - a good result for all of us.

My preferred file format is PSD (Photoshop) because a layered file gives me the best and speediest access to your design. I can use other file formats, but PSD is the most suitable.

What you get

I can go as far as you like with a design conversion - I am very flexible.

Some clients just want the basic HTML & CSS files that can be used as a template, others may want their design to be integrated into an existing production workflow such as a Content Management System or eCommerce application.

Unless your design is very plain indeed, you will also receive an images folder with all component graphics files.

If you are interested in how I've done my conversion, you can request commented files in which I will explain what has been done and why - directly in the working file!

Example cost breakdown

Around £120 for those who don't have time to scan this list.

This is an example of the costs involved for a typical PSD conversion. In this example, the client has requested a single, blank HTML file (with placeholder content) for use as a template - they will add all the content and relevant links.

  1. PSD Conversion
I receive your layered Photoshop file and chop it up into component graphics.
    £30 (1 hour)
  2. HTML Authoring
Using your layout specifications, I write a semantically correct HTML structure for you.
    £15 (0.5 hours)
  3. CSS Authoring
I take the graphics from your design and write a stylesheet that will define how the HTML displays in browsers.
    £60 (2 hours)
  4. Browser testing
I check that your design and my conversion displays as intended in major Web Browsers.
    £15 (0.5 hours)
  5. Optional Commenting
f you would like to know how I did all this, you may request I leave comments in my source code. This will give you an insight into how CSS alters the look of standard HTML as well as a starting point for your own experimentation.
    Additional £15 (0.5 hours)

Assuming your design file is in a suitable format, this comes to around £120 for an uncommented file set. Compare that to the time it may take you to complete.

Please also bear in mind that it will take me very little extra time to produce an entire HTML website based on a conversion such as this because the majority of the work is in the conversion, not in adding content (or copying files to produce new ones).

This estimate is for a typical PSD to HTML & CSS conversion and is here only as a guide. Your PSD conversion could be cheaper than this or more expensive because more work is required.
